The Second Day of Spring

I did not realize
how heavily the clouds
did weigh upon my heart
until rain fell--
Loudly it pounded
all night
amid thunder's song
and lightning's flash.
This morning i woke
to the sound of birds,
the smell of orange blossom
wafting on wet air,
pink cherry,
dogwood,
the beauty of a world
in balance,
and, for the first time
in a long while,
with my eyes open enough
to see it
